Lesser Gods
Some of the primary gods have lesser gods under them who serve both rewards and punishments on their god’s behalf. For example, if a temple of a god is defiled, a lesser god may arrive on the scene to seek retribution from (or simply destroy) the defiler. Lesser gods may be blessed or cursed with servitude to their god, depending on their particular circumstance.
Spirits
Somewhere between the lesser gods and the mortals lie spirits. Spirits are guardians or haunts, created and placed by the lesser gods (or very, very powerful druids or wizards) for a variety of purposes. They can hold domain over a large geographical area such as an entire mountain range, or be much more localized, like a “Lady of the Lake”. They are usually installed as a guardian to keep watch over an area, or as a haunt, to keep everyone out of an area. Spirits are often worshiped by less civilized tribal cultures – for example a goblin tribe may worship the spirit of the river they live on, as the river provides most of their food, and may fear angering the river spirit because it could take their food source away or kill them in a flood.
The Great One
According to popular belief, the primary Gods in Remorra were banished from another realm by a more powerful entity. Followers of “The Great One” worship that entity, even though nobody knows anything about it. The fact that it could banish gods means it’s obviously the superior being. Calling themselves “Awakened” (or “The Awakened”) the followers are very cult-like in their practices. They appoint “Fathers” who guide Awakened “Children” along the spiritual pathway to cleansing, for “The Day of the Arrival”, when The Great One shall arrive in Remorra to once again banish (or some think destroy) “The False Ones” (the primary gods).
The Awakened have been known to vandalize temples and attack followers of other gods, as cleansing in the name of “The Great One”.
They will also occasionally shanghai leaders of other religions and leave them in completely isolated areas, “banishing them”, as The Great One did to their false god.
The Awakened do not build temples – they take over existing temples of other religions, defiling any references to the original god of the temple.
The Eleventh Gaze
Beholders are exceptionally powerful creatures, being able to will things into existence. Some believe that beholders are the key to how the world (and everything in it) was created. The Eleventh Gaze is a dark, mysterious cult who will gather in cities or towns near known beholder lairs, thwarting any attempt by locals to disturb, kill, or remove the creature.
Details are sketchy, but the cult has several ranks, all named with an eye theme. Initiates are known as “Pupils”, eleven of which are under the guidance of an “Iris”. High leaders are known as “Gazers”.
The One-Seven
A period of 17 years (The Forgotten Age) is completely missing from every known cultural history. In every discernible historical account it is exactly 17 years long. There are many, many theories as to what happened during these years, but nobody knows for sure. One of the stranger theories is that a hungry god ate the world, but didn’t like the taste of mankind… causing the god to vomit the world up 17 years later. Believers of this theory call themselves “The One-Seven”, and worship “The Eater of Worlds”. They hold The Eater’s distaste of mankind in very high regard. Their symbols include the number 17, a fork, and a face wearing a blindfold, symbolizing the unseen era.
