Redtide is known for its red clay, which erodes into the surrounding waters. The land is useless for farming crops (though there is some hardy vegetation), so the region is primarily untamed, barren wilderness.
There is no formal government or ruling body in Redtide, but there are wandering packs of dragonborn natives. They move around the island on a constant hunt for food and untainted water. Much like wolf packs, the dragonborn are territorial, even attacking other packs who venture too close. Within each pack is an alpha, who maintains a very strict hierarchy within the group. Members must kill someone above them to rise in the ranks. Because of their isolated nature, dragonborn usually have only the most basic of hand-crafted armor and weapons, made from wood, stone, bone, and other found materials. Only the alphas possess metal weapons or armor, which they acquired from either an unlucky outlaw who dared to step upon the shores of Redtide, or an ancestor who had a run-in with an outsider.
The few non-dragonborn people that inhabit the island are mostly outlaws and hermits, seeking solitude in the harsh environment.
Dragonborn in Redtide do not seem to have any grasp of magic, though they possess a fire-breath ability
Dragonborn are very rarely seen outside of Redtide, and are discriminated against by a majority of the world’s population. Large foreign cities are a little more tolerant, in some rare cases even allowing them into universities and other higher institutions.
They are disparagingly referred to as “Reds”, “Drags”, or “Scaleys” by people all over the world.
