Orcs

Orcs

(taken from AD&D 2nd Edition’s Complete Book of Humanoids)

Orcs are aggressive humanoids that live in tribal societies. They band together to hunt and raid, believing that to survive they must expand their territory. This need to expand puts them in a constant state of war with humans, elves, dwarves, goblins, and even other orc tribes.

Orc communities are usually found underground (75% likely), but wilderness villages do exist. These lairs are protected by the best defenses the orcs can invent or steal. Some of these communities are built around active mines. All make use of slave labor.

The orc mentality views aggression as the natural order. They believe that other races are inferior to them, and bully weaker creatures. Enslaved orcs will rebel at the first opportunity. When allied with others, orcs are quick to take offense and break agreements.

To orcs, the greatest challenge they can set for themselves is the test of battle. They value territory above all else, though they also take great pride in battle experience and prowess, wealth, and lots of offspring. Orc society is male dominated; females exist to bear young. Though carnivorous, orcs prefer game meats or livestock to intelligent races.

Major Tribes

These are the four major tribes known to exist in Aknok

Moko

Warpaint: Blue

The Moko orcs live mostly along the western and southwestern coast of Aknok. Moko do not want to give up their home, but like most orcs they still feel a need to expand. Because of this they have taken to the seas, as that is an easier option than constantly attacking the other orc tribes of Aknok, which would bring those tribes to their home. They will often bribe the other orc tribes to leave them alone. This has forced the Moko to constantly sail and raid, to bring a steady supply of bribe wealth home. The other tribes regard the Moko as weak and spineless.

They are able sailors, and while they often repair ships, they don’t build them from scratch. Ships in their fleet were initially stolen from various places along Piquant’s coastline, but the Moko have since graduated to full pirate status.

They often invade the Dragonborn of nearby Redtide for slaves, as well as Piquant’s coastal settlements for new ships.

Ugaar

Warpaint: White

Of all the orc tribes, the Ugaar embrace magic the most, with a very high percentage of them being shamans, druids, witches, and warlocks.

Ugaar live in the lower-central flat-lands of Aknok. They often act as an intermediary for trade between the Moko and Wor’Tuk.

Wor’Tuk

Warpaint: Red

War’Tuk are the most aggressive and war-like of all the orc tribes, and live in the rocky hills of central Aknok. They have an unquenchable thirst for wealth, land, and bloodshed. War’Tuk are the primary force leading the terrible war in Mytar, and have taken hold of Kor’Taap, a once beautiful Elven city, known previously as Dirinbir. The War’Tuk use goblin slaves, as well as orcs from other tribes.

Slor’g

Warpaint: Black

Slor’g live almost entirely underground in caves. As a result, their skin is very light gray – almost white. Sunlight hurts their eyes, so on the rare occasion one is seen in daylight they are usually wearing slitted eye protection made of leather, wood, or bone.
